There are few things more exciting to photograph than a secret proposal. This romantic wedding proposal at Maybourne Riviera on the French Riviera was months in the making, and I was lucky enough to be trusted with the secret.
The Wedding Proposal at Maybourne Riviera
For several weeks, I worked closely with Charles to help guide the surprise. Keyana believed they were attending a private Hermès executive wine tasting on the hotel’s lawn. My role was to arrive as the event photographer and quietly capture the evening without giving anything away.
The Proposal – She Said Yes
As the evening began, everything appeared completely normal. Then the music changed. It was their special song, and Charles knew it was time. He proposed overlooking the Mediterranean.
Keyana was completely shocked. She had believed that she was ‘unsurpriseable’ and had always said that nobody could ever surprise her. Yet Charles had managed to do exactly that.
It was such a beautiful moment to photograph. The emotion, the joy and the connection between them were incredible.
After the Proposal – Engagement Portraits
Once the secret was finally revealed, we had time to relax and create some beautiful portraits around Maybourne Riviera. With the Mediterranean as the backdrop, the photographs became a celebration of the newly engaged couple and the beginning of this next chapter together.
A Romantic Dinner at Maybourne Riviera
The evening continued with a private dinner overlooking the Riviera. Elegant details and beautiful florals created an intimate setting for the newly engaged couple.
Why I Love My Job
I absolutely loved working with Charles in the lead-up to this surprise proposal. But even more than the beautiful location, it was their connection that made this commission so special. Photographing real emotion, genuine joy, and a story that had been kept secret for months was a wonderful reminder of why I love photographing people and their most meaningful moments.
